Thales of Miletus
Greek philosopher, c. 624-546 BC
No writing of Thales has come down to us, and even the ancients doubted that he had written anything. Tradition remembers him for predicting an eclipse of the sun, in 585 BC, and for the thesis that everything comes from water.
